Humans have consistently aimed to develop tools that streamline tedious tasks and boost productivity, with AI being the latest addition to this effort.
In recent years, AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini have established themselves as essential components of modern workflows. Leveraging large language models for tasks has become an increasingly popular way for
knowledge workers to save time.
More than 1 in 5 Gen Zs are using AI often
Across all four generations, the proportion of workers using personal AI tools at work ranges from 73% to 85%. Unsurprisingly, the generation with the greatest share of workers bringing their own AI tools to work is
Gen Z at 85%.
Meanwhile, one in five Malaysians use AI daily or frequently at work, particularly Gen Zers (36%) and Millennials (24%). Interestingly, there are huge differences between generations in terms of exposure to AI. In the
workplace, 42% of Gen Xers and 73% of Baby Boomers have never used AI in their work.
The majority of workers in Malaysia (81%) say they understand the impact AI will have on their jobs, according to insights from Randstad Malaysia.
81% of Malaysians feel the impact of AI on their jobs
When asked how AI has impacted their jobs, 7% said they do not know, 12% said has made no impact at all on their job while 32% said AI has made a slight impact on their job. At the same time, 40% said AI has made a
considerable impact, 5% said AI has already affected their job while 4% expect to lose their job because of AI.
The study survey has been conducted with nearly 173,00 respondents and 6,084 companies surveyed nationwide.
AI’s Impact on job satisfactions
The study revealed positive workforce attitudes towards AI’s impact at work, with 45% of respondents stating that it will increase their job satisfaction. Notably, those already using AI and the higher-educated are
more optimistic that AI will boost their job satisfaction.
Conclusion: The rise of AI
These findings highlight the evolving role of AI as a transformative force in Malaysia’s workforce. While adoption rates differ across generations and industries, the overall trend points towards a future where AI
becomes an integral part of daily operations. The rising awareness and utilisation of AI tools suggest a growing recognition of their potential to enhance efficiency and innovation. As Malaysian workers continue to
adapt to this technological shift, it will be crucial for organisations to provide the necessary training and support to ensure employees can harness AI effectively, paving the way for a more resilient and future-ready
workforce.
